Today we enter Holy Week with Christ as we become one of the crowd waving our palms as He enters the city of peace to bring peace to the world through the blood of His cross. And this year it has struck me particularly that this re-enactment of events is for us so that we may experience ever more deeply the peace of Christ in our own lives.
We walk with Christ so that we are more aware that each day of our lives He walks with us because He has walked ahead of us to show us the way through suffering and death to the resurrection. This is what we are celebrating this week. This is the drama that we are to be caught up in. And the challenge is: how much are we going to make this pilgrimage through the different services of Holy Week a priority this week because the more we walk with Christ throughout the week the more we will be open to the joy of the resurrection next Sunday.
For many people in our area this is just another day and this week will be just another week. For many people of our faith this week could well end up just another week if it isn't made a priority amongst everything else that goes on. Even the Church changes the way that it does things this week so that we are aware that this is an extraordinary time when we are remembering in the deepest sense of the word the Passion of Christ and His Resurrection.
When we come out of a routine then we are more sensitive to what is going on at a deeper level and God is more able to reach us because we have not filled out time with so many other things that there is no space left for Him. So allow this week to be an extraordinary week and wherever possible throw routine out of the window. Take full advantage of the rich liturgy of this week and walk with Christ so that this time next week you will have become more aware that the risen Christ walks with you every day of your life. Wherever you are I hope that you have a prayerful and profound week leading to a wonderful celebration of Easter.
