Father Chris' Journal: |
|
|
The other day in school one of the mothers told me a true story of what had happened a few days earlier with her young son and I want to share it with you as we approach Mother's Day 2007.
Things had got a bit heated and both mum and son were cooling off in different rooms, as sometimes we need to do, and were giving each other a bit of space. After a while the little boy, who had been busy with crayons and paper came in to the room his mum was in and presented her with an envelope with mummy written on. As he gave her the envelop he said 'I'm sorry!' When she opened the envelope she recognized that it was one of the old Christmas cards that she had kept for him to play with. Inside he had crossed out the word 'Christmas' and instead written the word 'Lent' so it said 'Merry Lent, Lots of love....' And I am sure that we will all have a Merry Lent if we follow his example and recognize when we have to say sorry and value those around us.
This year for Mother's Day we will be giving out a card with prayers on which I have put below and hopefully there will be a copy on the website you can download print off and keep for yourself or give to someone else. The idea is that everyone can have one of these cards on Mothers Day. Merry Lent!

A Prayer for Mothers: |
|
Lord, when we are small help us to be kind to our mothers, to do our best and to try to do as we are told.
As we grow up, help us to remember that we are loved and that our mothers want us to be safe and want the best for us.. Give them the patience to be with us as we grow and change.
When we are adults and when we leave home help us to remember our mothers, wherever we are and wherever they are.
As we grow older and we are called upon to look after our mothers
Help us to do so with generous love and dignity.
And whenever we are parted, help us to remember the times we have spent together with love and affection and that we will be reunited in heaven. And if today is tinged with sadness help us to remember you gave us Mary your mother to be with us. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen

A Mother's Prayer: |
|
Lord, give me strength
When everyone is looking to me for support.
Lord give me courage when I have to challenge the behaviour of someone I love.
Give me patience as my children grow and trust in You as I can only stand and allow them to make their own decisions.
Give me wisdom, Lord, when they ask for my advice, and the strength to forgive when everything has gone wrong and they turn to me.
Above all, Lord, let the love I have for my children reflect the love you have for me. Help us all to remember that you are with us, you love us and you forgive us through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee. Blessed art Thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Amen
